Getting Back Into The Groove

Since my last post, I have still kept the weight off. That was a huge concern of mine once I started getting back into "routine" and slacked off with the good eating habits. That's not to say I didn't gain a couple of pounds and then lose it again. I think that's part of adjusting and learning where you and your body are most cohesive. There were cheat days (or weeks) and the exercise routine has been seriously lacking the last couple of months. All that changed this past Monday. I decided to get back into working out and being more physical. It was a tough week trying to get back in the groove and motivating myself to stop being lazy. But I did it! I also decided to run a 10k in November... I'm probably crazy but last years 5k was a lot of fun so why not be double crazy and do a 10k; all the more reason to get back into the exercise routine.

Exercise habits aside, the other half of the healthy spectrum is from what you eat. I can't say in good conscience that my eating has been the best. The bread and sweets have been slowly creeping back into my diet and I can see the negative impact almost immediately. That being said, this week it's back to no bread, no pasta, no white rice, no tortillas, no butter, no extra sugary sweets... I was talking with a friend last week who had given up soda. We don't need soda to survive but the way your body starts craving it because its so use to having it is insane. The sugar withdrawals is a real thing, especially to folks with a sweet tooth (myself definitely included). It doesn't help when there are chocolate bars and ice cream and cookies at the house. But to achieve goals in the face of adversity is the sweetest victory of all. That can be my mantra this week as I try desperately to stay away from all the junk food just sitting in the pantry, waiting to be eaten..... Wish me luck!
